The City of Springfield works off a five-year Capital Improvement Program developed from citizen input and approved by City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Many construction projects are funded by the voter-approved 1/4 cent capital improvements tax or the 1/8 cent voter-approved transportation tax.

For further information, contact Stephen A. Meyer, Superintendent of Street Maintenance, 864-1965.

The Missouri Department of Transportation site (MoDOT) provides state-wide, up-to-the-minute postings on conditions and construction of our region's state highways. Springfield and our District 8 information is easily accessed using MoDOT's site's map.

The local Ozarks Traffic site lists up-to-the-minute construction progress and anticipated delays.

During winter months, a map of Springfield's snow routes is available for download.

Kearney Street Widening (Route 744): Springfield

Crews will build a large concrete box culvert across Kearney Street. The work will take place AWAY from traffic on the south side of Kearney east of Eastgate Avenue. Two lanes of traffic will remain open during the work. However, traffic may be shifted AWAY from where crews are set up.

Crews will pour concrete to widen Kearney Street on the south side of the road between Route 65 and LeCompte Road.

The work is part of a project to widen Kearney Street to five lanes between Route 65 and LeCompte Road, rehabilitate the Kearney Street bridge over Route 65 and widen the eastbound lanes of Kearney Street between Mayfair Avenue and Route 65.

Project completion: July 2009.

Route 60/Glenstone Avenue Interchange: Springfield

Crews finish up work on the project. The work should take place AWAY from traffic.

Republic Road is open to traffic. The new eastbound Route 60 off-ramp and on-ramp are now open.

Drivers traveling south on Glenstone Avenue who need to travel east on Route 60 must be in the right-hand lane to access the eastbound on-ramp.

The work scheduled is part of a project to rebuild and relocate the eastbound Route 60 ramps, raise and widen Republic Road to five lanes and build a new intersection at Republic Road/Harvard Avenue/Route 60 eastbound ramps.

Project nearing completion.

Northbound Route 13 Lane Relocation: North of Springfield

Work on the project will be limited until temperatures are warm enough to allow crews to continue paving the new northbound lanes of Route 13.

Contractor crews may do some dirt work along the new northbound Route 13 lanes – AWAY from traffic.

All of the crossovers along Route 13 are open to traffic. However, drivers may have to travel over gravel until the crossovers can be paved later in the project.

The work is part of a project to relocate the northbound lanes of Route 13 between Pinewood Drive (south of Farm Road 48) and Farm Road 6. The new lanes will parallel the southbound lanes.

Scheduled completion: June 2009.

Route 266 Relocation/Airport Boulevard Construction – west of Springfield

Drivers on Route 266 are shifted to a temporary bypass on the west end of the project. Contractor crews have completed paving the new section of Route 266. However, the new section must be paved at each end to connect the new roadway to the existing road.

Greene County Farm Road 124 is open at the new round-about at Route EE. Route EE traffic is now using the round-about. Crews will build ditches and install new road signs around the round-about.

Nighttime lane closings are possible on I-44 underneath Route 266 if temperatures are warm enough.

Crews will paint bridge girders. During the nighttime lane closings, I-44 traffic will be routed over the ramps at the interchange.

Traffic on the Route 266 bridge over I-44 is reduced to one lane in each direction on the westbound side.

Crews will grade rock and dirt for the new Airport Boulevard south of Route EE.

The project involves building Airport Boulevard between Route 266 and the new Springfield-Branson National Airport terminal, building a new round-about at the intersection of Airport Boulevard, Route EE and Farm Road 124, relocating Route 266 to the north of the existing roadway and rehabilitating the Route 266 (Chestnut Expressway) bridge over I-44.

Scheduled completion: December 2008.
