Services of the Department of Public Information
- News
Releases - News releases announcing City
events and issues sent to
local media help provide information
to the public.
- Service
Requests - One of the department's most visible
services, this program helps provide service or address
problems by working with citizens, other City departments,
and City Council members to make citizens aware of action
the City may be taking related to the request. Call 864-1011
for assistance. The Service
Request Division also maintains
the Citizen's Service Packet,
a packet of information helpful to citizens with questions and
concerns.
- TV23 - Cable
channel 23 broadcasts original programming related to City events,
news, and issues and also broadcasts a rotating informational
bulletin board.
- Frequently Requested Contact
Information - An online database
of information to assist citizens in their search
for city, county and state phone numbers.
- Web site -
The City's official Web site provides information, applications,
forms, and interactive features such as maps.
- Tours - Schools, businesses,
and other interested groups may schedule tours of City Hall,
the Busch Municipal Building, and other City facilities by
calling 864-1010.
- Partners
in Education - Partnering with local schools, this
program offers interaction between school children, teachers,
and City officials, and helps teach young people about City
government. By exposing children to local government at an early
age they can grow up knowing about the services provided
by the City and how each citizen can make a contribution to
his or her community. Classroom materials, speakers, and special
events are offered throughout the year, with a special emphasis
to fourth grade students.
- "In Touch" - Menu-based
phone system which offers citizens recorded information on a
variety of subjects such as Road Construction, News Releases,
Permits, Recycling, and Jobs. Call 864-1164.
- Special
Events - The City of
Springfield sponsors or cooperates in planning many special
events, including ribbon cuttings and groundbreakings, legislative
functions and community outreaches. The PIO assists City departments
in planning special events, as well as in coordinating their
promotions. The intent is for neighborhoods, civic organizations,
and private individuals to have access to all the opportunities
available from the City.
- The SCENE - This award-winning monthly newsletter for
employees and retirees of the City of Springfield provides benefit
information, features on City employees, and information about
City events.
- Other Services include
print pieces such as brochures and signage, citizen and employee
surveys, and general information assistance
